Surau Al-Ihraash (a small Muslim prayer hall) was established in 1925 and stands as one of Pekanbaru’s historic sites.
During the independence struggle, this surau served as the base for Fisabillillah troops. It later functioned as a place of worship and Qur'an study for local children.
The 1970 renovation added a mihrab (prayer niche). The community also built a "keluntung" — a traditional wooden instrument marking prayer times.
In 2005, funding from the Riau governor was used to build toilets, ablution facilities, and add windows. A full renovation in 2007 by donor H. Awaluddin preserved the original carvings.
This spot is appealing because it preserves traditional Malay architecture and independence-era history in one site.
